My mom passed away very suddenly on November 29, 2011.  I am at such a loss I can barely stand it.  This picture is one I took of her with Kat at Sleeping Bear Dunes this summer.  They were two peas in a pod.  Mom, you are (and always will be) greatly missed!

The real religion of the world comes from women much more than from men – from mothers most of all, who carry the key of our souls in their bosoms.  ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

  5. So very sorry, Lisa. I know this is a difficult time for your family. Stand Firm! Or, fall gracefully… both are completely acceptable.

  6. Lisa, I was thinking of you and thinking it had been a while since I’d heard from you. I’m so sorry to hear your Mom!
Big hugs, I was missing you and though it’d been too long….no wonder.

Well, hugs and blessings to you.

What a GREAT and recent photo to have. She is beautiful, looks fun and I know she was strong b/c sand dunes aren’t easy to go through. How wonderful to capture precious (and for gosh sakes light) memories in Michigan with your family.

6 years ago my brother died and now I love sharing fun memories with my girls while we look at pictures. I can’t imagine losing my mother and my heart goes out to you.

    Warmly,
    Melissa

I am very sorry to read of your loss. This is a wonderful photo. Three years ago I suddenly lost my mother. I hope that time will bring you some peace.

    • Mike – thank you so much. It was completely unexpected. She was so active and engaged in her life…to be gone so suddenly is such heartbreak for me. A blessing for her, of course, but so very, very sad for the ones she left behind. Thank you, again, for your kind words. I do appreciate them.

  8. Thank you, Mark! I miss her every day. Losing her wasn’t part of my plan, but I understand it was part of God’s. I will see her again one day!

  9. Mark – if you read this again, you didn’t happen to grow up in the Detroit area, did you? When I was growing up we lived down the street from an O’Connor family. One of the boys was Mark who, I’m certain, went on to medical school. He was friends with my brother during the time we lived there. Just curious. What a small world, if so.

  10. Hi Lisa…yes it’s me. I happened across your mother’s obituary earlier this month and was really shaken. My store of good memories from many years and miles away speaks to the exceptional character of your mom and I can see so much of this carried forward in your photos and blogs. We all had a great childhood and btw Kat looks just like you did! I also informed my parents who were very sad to hear about your mom. We will keep all of your family in our prayers. Please send warm regards to Karen and John.

    • Oh my gosh, Mark!! Hello after so many, many years. My goodness, I recall my mom being so fond of you and your family. I also remember a few model cars blown up with firecrackers in our yard. 🙂 I’m sure that was you…or, maybe Bill Kirsten! So many years, so much change. I’m happy to hear your mom and dad are both still alive. What a blessing! Are they still in Michigan? My dad passed away suddenly in 1997, and then losing my mom in a matter of hours…well, it was my worst nightmare being so far away. She went in to Bon Secour ER the Sunday after Thanksgiving, was diagnosed with acute leukemia, and suffered a brain bleed that night. So sad for me, but such a gift from God to take her so gently from this earth. I will certainly pass condolences along to my sister. My brother has been long estranged (another sorry tale); the result of holding our parents to standards darn near perfection, and not practicing forgiveness for the blunders parents make. I took on parenting rather late in life and it’s the hardest job on earth…one fraught with imperfection and the need for generous helpings of grace. This is probably far too much information for a comment section on a blog. Ha ha! Such a blast-from-the-past has me a little nostalgic for what I perceive as far simpler times. I hope you are well – a Wolverine living in enemy territory can be a recipe for disaster. 🙂

  11. Hi Lisa and good to hear back from you. Hope you had a great Easter. Unfortunately many men get angry and keep it inside for a long time. I stopped talking to my mom for 6 years due to a disagreement, until my wife intervened, and my mom was kind enough to start over like nothing happened! Thus, women are necessary to run the world! John will be my Easter prayer intention.
